Private sector to drive 90 percent of the story in terms of powering credit flow

By – Shyamal Sinha

The target is for a $10 trillion economy, we need to build an Atmanirbhar economy where we control our own destiny, says Shri Jayant Sinha Hon’ble Member, Parliament & Chairperson, Parliamentary Standing Committee for Finance at an ASSOCHAM event.

Speaking at the ASSOCHAM 8th National E-Summit on ‘Non-Banking Finance Companies & Infrastructure Financing’, the Minister highlighted various initiatives taken by the parliamentary committee and by the government to transform the financial lending landscape and strengthen NBFCs and Infrastructure financing in the country.

“For $10 trillion economy, we need to have an economy that is, at the competitive frontier, as competitive and capable in its ability to deliver products and services both to domestic as well as export market. We need to improve the financial system that we have today, the nature of credit flow if we are to take $10 trillion or global competitiveness as the benchmark. Based on various operational parameters, the trajectory we are on right now is not one that will lead to a globally competitive $10 trillion economy. To be on the right trajectory, we must use technology.

We have made giant strides in the last few years, and we need to build on that. Public platforms and private innovations with appropriate regulatory and policy interventions as required has enabled us to achieve incredibly terrific things such as the roll out of UPI. Aadhar is now the largest biometric based identification system. We’ve got digital identities and digital payments worked out. As we move forward, we have to do more in terms of public platforms”, said Shri Jayant Sinha.

The commercial backbone of the country is rapidly becoming GSTN, with this backbone as the digital trail on which we can build more innovation than we can start to really leapfrog which will enable us to get to the $10 Trillion economy” he further added.

Shri S.Ramann, CMD, Small Industries Development Bank Of India (SIDBI), addressing the gathering said, “We are only seeing the tip of the iceberg and the growth of NBFCs is yet to come. NBFCs have played a great role in retail finance & individual loans. They also straddle a wide segment in the financial sector. Of about 20 lakh crore credit given to the MSMEs, NBFCs have a share of about 10%. NBFCs credit to GDP is in the region of 12%. The direction of the government and regulators is very clear, lending has to be emphasised upon and the delivery of credit is critical.

The way technology is coming into the financial sector, we are looking at models that can help deliver credit to the vast majority of the country. The stated credit gap in the MSME sector for debt is calculated at about 25 lakh crores by 2025. The requirement to grow the sector from both regulatory perspective as well as the need for government to ensure credit delivery down to the final borrower is very strong. One of the biggest problem is that after 40 or 50 NBFCs that straddle the credit delivery we do not have rating ability. Larger NBFCs must come forward and play an enabling role in increasing the reach of the sector”.

Addressing the seminar Shri Ramesh Iyer, Chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council for NBFCs & Infrastructure financing said, “This is an important summit given the challenges that we face as an industry. NBFC model is developed fundamentally to serve the underserved customers who otherwise find it hard to access credit. It has helped customers in this segment to improve their lives and livelihood positively. NBFCs have deeper penetration in rural markets and have played a significant role in the financial inclusion agenda. NBFCs have bounced back from various challenges and disruptions in the past because of a strong business model that is built outside in. The government and regulators have always looked at NBFCs as systemically very important in the overall growth of the economy and NBFC have in turn responded favorably to the respect. As a growing industry, NBFCs look forward to more support that would strengthen the industry and overall growth”.

A knowledge report titled ‘Looking up – NBFC on revival path post pandemic blow’ was also released at the summit with CRISIL as the knowledge partner. The report focusses on the dynamics of the NBFC sector, challenges, prospects and the way forward.

The summit also deliberated upon pertinent topics such as Overall NBFCs & MFIs Sector Outlook, Deep-Drive into Infrastructure Financing and Housing Financing. Industry stalwarts such as Shri Alexander Muthoot, MD, The Muthoot Group, Shri Amit Gainda, MD & CEO, Avanse Financial Services Ltd., Shri Ketan Doshi, MD, Pay Point India Network Pvt. Ltd., Shri Amit Gupta, CFO, U GRO Capital, Shri Sanjay Rudra, General Manager, Large & Mid Corporate, Bank of Maharashtra, Shri Samik Dasgupta, General Manager, and HOD NPA Management and Legal, IIFCL, Shri Ashok Soni, ED, Pension Fund Regulatory and Development Authority, Dr. M. Narendra, Former CMD, Indian Overseas Bank addressed the panel discussions.

Liquor shops coming up in violation of rules will be sealed with immediate effect-Adesh Gupta

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta has said the party’s protest against Kejriwal government’s new excise policy is continuing and all three municipal corporations together have decided that if liquor shops under new excise policy are in non conforming areas or are coming up in clear violation of master plan 2021 and do not comply with corporations rules or are in close vicinity of a religious place or a school will be sealed with immediate effect.  Addressing a news conference along with LOP in state assembly Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and all three mayors, he said the corporations have already started sealing such liquor shops and now it is being intensified.  It is because opening of such shops have led to spurt in crime about which Kejriwal government seems to be least concerned about, he charged.

Shri Gupta said all three corporations have been directed that any liquor shop coming up in violation of these rules and laws or are in non conforming areas should be sent notice and sealed with immediate effect.  He said on one hand he is opening liquor shops in every nook and corner of the city while on the other, Kejriwal in his own book Swaraj had wrote clearly a new liquor shop can’t come up in a locality without  leaders or officials being given bribe.  In such a case would Kejriwal tell us how much money he has taken for these new liquor joints, he asked, warning if the new anti people excise policy is not withdrawn the party would resort to chakka jam on January 3 at 14 places across the city in a big way.

The party state president said everybody; women, elderly, children are concerned about the new excise policy as liquor shops are now opening next door to their residences.  It’s rather strange while Kejriwal is advocating prohibition while in Punjab, back home here in Delhi he is hell bent upon making Delhi a city of alcohol. But BJP is not just going to sit back quietly and said we started a mass movement against the policy from Rajghat , then started a signature campaign against this in the entire city and now on January 3, will resort to chakka jam to protest this. He warned the party will, through corporations’ administration or the mass movement will oppose this new excise policy tooth and nail and compel state government to withdraw this policy and not allow it to play with future of youngsters which is very shameful on part of Kejriwal.

Leader of opposition in state assembly Shri Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said the Kejriwal government has forcibly imposed new excise policy on Delhiites despite it being opposed in state assembly vehemently. Even time to serve liquor in Delhi has been raised. Till now it did not used to be served in clubs or bars after 11 p.m. but can now be done till 3 a.m.  Not only this, commission for liquor contractors been raised from 2 per cent to 12 per cent. He said in the city Rs 15000 crore worth of liquor is sold annually but that too will change now. What brand Delhiites will drink will also be decided by liquor mafia, he said.

Shri Bidhuri, charging the Kejriwal government with scam worth thousands of crores of rupees under new excise policy said it should be probed. He said the new policy will destroy Delhi and hence should be revoked with immediate effect or the BJP would relentlessly continue to oppose it.

Shri Suryan said his corporation will not spare any such liquor shops that have come up in violation or municipal laws or master plan laws. We have so far sent notices to 22 people and sealed six shops. He reiterated the south Delhi Corporation won’t spare any illegal activity and would seal any illegal liquor shop.

Shri Shyam Sunder Agarwal said there are complaints coming from various sections of the society and institutions about such liquor shops and east Delhi Corporation has intensified action on such joints. He said his corporation has so far sealed eight such shops and sent notices to 70 other. All those such shops being opened in non conforming areas will face stern action, he warned.

Sardar Raja Iqbal Singh said they are getting complaints from several religious organizations besides RWAs following which we have started sending notices and sealing such illegally came up shops in various areas. Till now 21 shops have been sent notices and another ten sealed, he added.

Kejriwal govt should exempt corona affected traders from paying fix charges-Adesh Gupta

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta has said Arvind Kejriwal is busy with political tourism with no concern for Delhiites now and hence every citizen of Delhi and traders are facing all sorts of problems. Already faced with corona affects the state government has now burdened traders with fix charges. In fact for both small and big traders it is like a double whammy as they still have to get out of corona affects. We therefore demand Kejriwal government should exempt  traders from paying these charges for past two months as also refund them whatever extra charges they had paid during corona time, he said.

Addressing a news conference here he said State government is already charging extra through fix charges route. In the whole city power consumption is 7500 mw but government is charging as per 22700 mw. Through this route the state government last time charged Rs 150 crore extra but took no responsibility regarding corona preparedness. AAP leaders are so busy in political tourism to the extent   that neither they nor the health minister knows about corona situation in Delhi. One shudders to think what will they do to overcome the situation. He said 11000 buses are needed now but Kejriwal seems least bothered resulting into common people facing the problem by standing in long queues for hours at times.

Shri Adesh Gupta said while opening liquor shops on one hand, he has decided to contain the corona by closing gyms, banquets, restaurant etc. How far is it right to just have shops closed  and not to make a roadmap for those who are dependent on them, he asked adding  by putting up big posters and talking of yoga kejriwal seems to be hell bent upon closing  gyms and serving liquor to people thereby trying to destroy the entire system. If liquor shops can run then even malls, restaurant etc can be operated on 50 per cent capacity basis.

The State BJP President Shri Adesh Gupta said it is because of wrong policies of Kejriwal government that youths are losing their jobs. The fact is Kejriwal neither has vision nor any direction which is leading Delhi to a chaos. He is busy only serving liquor and pushing youths towards alcoholism.  Instead of worrying about Delhi he is busy in political tourism in Punjab, Goa and Uttarakhand. He should realize his first priority is Delhi and people living here, he added.

BJP to observe Dec 29 as Vayada khilafi diwas-Adesh Gupta

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta, said exactly eight years ago on December  29 Arvind Kejriwal had talked big about bringing janlokpal bill but since then nothing has happened and nobody knows where is that bill.  He said he was trying his best but nothing happened on that front.  A child who was 10 years then and is now 18, even he is asking when Kejriwal would fulfill his promise, he quipped sarcastically. While stating that December 29 would be observed as vayada khilafi diwas he asked what is the AAP afraid of if it thinks itself to be honest.  The fact of the matter is at least 24 MLAs of the AAP have 87 cases going on against them and if janlokpal bill was to be brought they would be under scanner and grip on them would be tightened.

Addressing a news conference here , he said whenever there is talk about janlokpal bill Kejriwal government says it has been sent to lt governor for his assent but fact of the matter is in a 2018 RTI it was clearly revealed the said bill never went to lt governor.  The bill is with legal department of state government. He said not only this in past 12 months no lokayukta has been appointed who looks after corruption issues and this shows the intention of Kejriwal, he quipped.

Shri Gupta said a major reason for not appointing a lokayukta is that in 2019 when the then lokayukta asked all MLAs to give description of their movable and immovable assets at least 50 of the AAP MLAs then refused to comply with this saying it is against the law.  But the fact is every year in the March-end an elected representative of the people has to give these details about his movable or immovable assets. He asked kejriwal to tell even one of the number of the promises that he had made to Delhiites that has been fulfilled.

The State Party President said in his oath Kejriwal had promised to bring 11000 new buses, open 500 schools and colleges but past seven years have seen neither a new school or college or even a single addition of a new bus, he lamented adding on the contrary the buses that were playing on the roads their number has come down drastically.  Kejriwal talks of cleaning the Yamuna River before every elections but the fact is it is getting more polluted by the day, he added.

Continuing protests against new excise policy shows Kejriwal can’t have his way-Adesh Gupta

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta has said continuing protests by BJP and other sections of the society indicate that while Kejriwal government may not bother for peoples feeling while filling up its pockets but Delhiites have realised this policy may spoil the future of youngsters, women and others. While addressing a protest demonstration by Arya samaj at Jantar Mantar against new excise policy he said kejriwal   came to power with promise of honesty, eradicating corruption and prohibition but is now involved in himself doing just the same to fill up his pockets and doing everything he was opposed to earlier just to win polls in other states.

Shri Adesh Gupta said Kejriwal is so much intoxicated in power he has conveniently forgotten that in his own book Swaraj seven years back he said that opening of liquor shop is not possible without giving bribe to local leaders or officials. But would he say how much money he himself has taken for these 850 shops of liquor. How much has his AAP and its leaders have shared this money, he asked. He said Kejriwal had said he would talk to local RWAs and women before allowing any liquor shop there but did he do so while allowing these 850 shops.

Shri Adesh Gupta has said the state government gave enhancing of revenue and equal distribution of liquor shops in Delhi as reason for new excise policy but the fact is Delhi budget is a whopping Rs 65000 crore of which about 40 per cent lapses and goes back. In other words even this budget is not fully used so why the new excise policy as he would repeatedly shout in the state assembly that Delhi has a surplus budget. He said Delhiites made him the CM so that he could improve basic facilities and give more colleges, hospitals, roads etc and not to push Delhi towards alcoholism. In such a situation anyone who wants to see bright future for his children would oppose such a destructive policy.

BRISTOL2BEIJING EXPEDITION CROSSES INDIA, PARTNERED WITH CANKIDS KIDSCAN

By — Shyamal Sinha

Luke Grenfell-Shaw and his pink-and-blue tandem bicycle named “Chris” crossed the Wagah border from Pakistan into Punjab, India. Crossing into India was no small feat, having already cycled 17,000 kms across 27 countries, complicated by CoVid-19. Two weeks and 500 kms later, Luke arrived in New Delhi to celebrate the Indian segment of his inspiring global cycling expedition. The British High Commissioner to India received Luke in New Delhi.

“Luke’s journey and story remind us how to live a full life; and have attracted warmth and generosity as he cycles across India. Well done to Dev from CanKids for giving Luke extra pedal power, and I wish Luke a safe and enjoyable journey as he carries on towards Kolkata.” said Alex Ellis, British High Commissioner to India

Bristol2Beijing is a global tandem cycling expedition that aims to redefine what is possible with a cancer diagnosis. Luke was diagnosed with a rare and aggressive sarcoma in 2018 at the age of 24. His expedition invites people to participate, especially CanLivers (people living with cancer) and individuals from the countries through which he is riding, in whatever ways they can. Many participate by getting active at home. More than 200 people have participated by joining Luke on the tandem – 15 of which are CanLivers. More than 2,000 donors have participated by contributing to Luke’s ambitious fundraising goal of £300,000 GBP for charity.

In India, Luke has added CanKids KidsCan to the short list of charities he is supporting. CanKids KidsCan is the only National NGO dedicated to Change for Childhood Cancer in India across the continuum of care. Today, they work in partnership with 121 Cancer centres in 53 cities and 22 States which treat over 12,000 new childhood cancer cases every year.

Dev Mukherjee, a 17-year-old CanLiver living in Patiala, is excited to join Luke on the tandem from Chandigarh to New Delhi. Dev is a member of a CanKids KidsCan Konnect group of young people living with cancer in their past or present. Dev was treated for acute lymphocytic leukemia from the age of 2 to 5 at the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in New Delhi under the care of Dr Rachna Seth. Still in school, Dev is an adept computer programmer and aspires to be a chef.

“I’ve had such a warm welcome into India these first two weeks,” said Luke, “made possible by my wonderful local charity partner, CanKids KidsCan. It is a real honour to be received today by the UK High Commissioner, offering me an important audience for my message. I wish to show the world that a cancer diagnosis does not have to define your life – that you can set ambitious, adventurous goals and live life to the full. Dev, who is joining me on the tandem today, is a perfect example of the CanLiver approach I am promoting. We can live with cancer, powering through with hope and resolve to a brighter tomorrow.”

During his first two weeks in India, Luke has cycled across the Punjab, through Ludhiana and Chandigarh, and into Delhi. Luke has spoken at several events, including schools, hospitals, and cycling clubs, sharing his story, news of his expedition, and his inspiring CanLive message to hundreds of people, especially students.

After his visit in Delhi, Luke will cycle through North India along the old Grand Trunk Road to reach Kolkata by February, before carrying on to China and Beijing. Luke will continue to collaborate with CanKids KidsCan to spread the Bristol2Beijing message and to promote the outstanding work CanKids is doing to support young CanLivers in India.

“While crossing the country from northwest to southeast, CanKids KidsCan looks forward to facilitating connections for Luke to share his story, his inspiring message, and his love for cycling and sport,” says Poonam Bagai, founder chairman, CanKids, herself a cancer survivor. All funds raised are divided equally among Luke’s five charity partners. One fifth of funds raised in India en route to Kolkata will be dedicated to CanKids KidsCan, supporting their work with children living with cancer in India. (Read more about Leg 5 of the expedition).

“My world broke into pieces when I first received my diagnosis and began treatment,” Luke said. “Organisations that support young people who face these new realities are a crucial pillar to help them negotiate a challenging, unfamiliar, and uncertain world. That’s why it’s so wonderful to be partnering with CanKids KidsCan in India, which supports children and teenagers with cancer across India. I really look forward to all the ways the Bristol2Beijing community can also learn from and generously support the compassionate and loving work they do for so many young people in India.”

By opening schools Kejriwal govt is risking lives of children-Adesh Gupta

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta has asked the Kejriwal government to close down schools at the earliest in view of the alarmingly increasing number of corona cases in Delhi. He said the way corona cases are on the rise by keeping the schools and educational institutes open the Kejriwal government is risking the lives of children. Rather, he should convene an all party meeting to apprise about preparedness of the government to tackle the situation. At the same time it should issue directions to keep in check the large crowds in markets and ensure social distancing.

Addressing a news conference here , he said from December 20 onwards cases of corona positive are on the rise. The state government has imposed night curfew and several other restrictions. But we had already demanded the laxity shown by the Kejriwal government during the first two waves should not be repeated. He warned Kejriwal and his other leaders busy in false propaganda and poll promises in other states to get ready in the right earnest before the situation becomes dangerous.  Present at the dais with him were state media head Shri Naveen Kumar Jindal and spokesperson Ms. Pooja Suri.

Shri Gupta thanked the Prime Minister Shri Narendder Modi for saving the people from pandemic by taking early corrective measures in the first two waves and having over 140 crore vaccines administered and said it is the sign of an able leadership  and farsightedness. Now the decision has also been taken to give booster dose to frontline workers. He said on one hand the Modi government has permitted vaccine for youngsters aged 15-18 while on the other Kejriwal government is pushing into danger lives of children by giving them permission to attend schools.

The state BJP president said nobody knows what the situation is regarding preparedness for tackling corona now as Kejriwal, all his ministers, MLAs and party office bearers are busy campaigning in Punjab, UP, Goa and Uttarkhand. He reminded the Kejriwal government that in earlier two waves preparations were declared only on papers and were nowhere to seen at the ground level. Fact is when people needed oxygen, beds, testing facilities the most, there was an atmosphere of uncertainty, he added.

Kejriwal govt has opened liquor shops in violation of master plan and corporation rules-Ramvir Singh Bidhuri

By — Shyamal Sinha

Shri Adesh Gupta has exhorted all the morchas of the party to prepare themselves fully for the ensuing municipal corporation’s elections. If our workers are able to tell people about the welfare programmes and policies of the Modi government as also the good work done by all our three corporations, none can stop us from winning. While inaugurating the day-long executive meeting of all the morchas of state unit here today, he said the PM awaas yojna, ayushman yojna, gareen khadyan yojna, one nation one card are some of the schemes not implemented by the Kejriwal government in Delhi. The Rs 5 lac health insurance and housing are two things the poor need the most today but due to indifferent attitude of Kejriwal government, lacs of them are being deprived of these Modi government welfare schemes benefit.
He said we are now celebrating amrit mahatosav and yesterday the birth anniversary of late prime minister and Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee was celebrated as Sushashan diwas. He laid the foundation of many such schemes about which the Congress government only used to talk but never did anything on the ground level.  So in real sense it was Vajpayeeji who defined sushashan, he said adding schemes like pradhanmantri gramin  sarak yojna, world’s fifth largest swarnim chaturbhuj rastriya rajmarg pariyojna and several others to name a few. We are now proud the Prime Minister Shri Narender Modi is following his path and fulfilling the dreams of not only Vajpayeeji but the entire country.

Continuing, Shri Gupta said on one hand the Modi government gave free ration, vaccinations and other treatment during corona pandemic so that all sections of society were benefited while on the other Kejriwal government did nothing constructive. He said while making false  promises in poll bound states, he has left Delhiites on their own after unable to control pollution level, improve power, transport or water facilities and on top of it all,  has brought about new excise policy which smacks of scam worth thousands of crores of rupees. People would surely give him a befitting reply in ensuing polls, he warned.

Shri Gupta said from 2013 till 2019 he talked endlessly about cleaning river Yamuna and making it like Thames of London but fact is it is getting worse with sewer water from 32 main drains and other chemical wastes falling into it day in and day out. The government had prepared a Rs 1400 crore budget for this but to no avail, he lamented.

Dr Alka Gurjar said we should start preparing for the ensuing corporations polls in the right earnest and as usual all morchas will have a vital role to play in it. She said the whole world saw how the farsightedness and able leadership of Shri Modi helped contain corona. But if the central government did its maximum during corona times in any states, it was Delhi where instead of doing anything constructive Kejriwal kept blaming others for his own shortcomings for which Delhiites had to pay a very heavy price.

The national secretary said the way Kejriwal is making false promises during his political tourism to poll bound states people have seen through it. Announcing RS 1000 in Punjab, Kejriwal should rather give account of every 1000 rupee in past seven years. She said Delhiites elected him here so that he could carry out developmental work but in his quest for political expansion of his AAP, he seems to have forgotten everything conveniently, she quipped.

Shri Bidhuri described the Kejriwal government as that of scams and inactiveness and charged when people needed him the most during pandemic times, Kejriwal and his men were simply missing and they were left to fend for themselves. Not only this now the entire city is against new excise policy but Kejriwal government is busy opening new liquor shops in clear violation of municipal and master plan laws. He said the Delhiites are not getting the benefits of Modi government welfare policies due to Delhi government’s laxity, inactiveness, indifferent attitude and cheap politics of Kejriwal.

Shri Bidhuri said he talks of unemployment allowance and pension in other states but is giving step motherly treatment to Delhi people who made him what he is today. Instead of going up, pension for senior citizens has been reduced. Earlier, 4.65 lac people were getting pension now this number stands at 4.49 lac. Even they are not getting pension in time, he said.  In past three years those poor senior citizens who applied for pension haven’t got it till date, he said adding while roads are broken here and fact remain not a new flyover has come up ever since the AAP government came to power in past seven years.
