ADDRESS BY THE HON’BLE PRESIDENT OF INDIA SMT. DROUPADI MURMU TO BOTH HOUSES OF THE PARLIAMENT

By — Shyamal Sinha

Honorable Members,

1.      It gives me great pleasure to address both Houses of Parliament assembled together. A few months back, our country completed 75 years of independence and entered the ‘Amrit Kaal’. This ‘Azadi ka Amrit Kaal’ assimilates the pride of thousands of years of our glorious past, the inspirations of Indian freedom struggle and India’s resolve for a golden future.

2.      This ‘Amrit Kaal’of 25 years is the period of the golden centenary of independence and the making of a developed India. This 25-year span is for all of us and for every citizen of the country to perform our duties to the utmost levels. An opportunity to build an era beckons us for which we need to work continuously with our full potential.

• By 2047, we have to build a nation, which not only embraces its glorious past, but also encompasses every golden aspect of modernity.

• We have to build a Bharat, which is self-reliant and also able to fulfill its humanitarian obligations.

• A Bharat which has no poverty and where the middle class is also prosperous.

• A Bharat whose youth and women power will be at the forefront to give direction to the society and the nation, and whose youth are well ahead of time.

• A Bharat whose diversity is even more vivid and whose unity becomes even more unshakeable.

3.      When the country actualises this reality in 2047, it will certainly observe and assess the foundation of its grand construction. At that time, these initial moments of the Azadi ka Amrit Kaal will be viewed with a different perspective. Therefore, this time and this period of ‘Amrit Kaal’ has become all the more significant.

Honorable Members,

4.      When the people of the country gave my government the opportunity to serve them for the first time, we began with the mantra of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’. With the passage of time, ‘Sabka Vishwas’ and ‘Sabka Prayas’ were also added to it. This mantra has now become the inspiration for building a developed India. In a few months, my government will complete nine years on this Kartavya Path of development.

5.      In almost nine years of my government’s term, the people of India have witnessed many positive changes for the first time. The biggest change is that today every Indian’s confidence is at its peak and the world’s outlook towards India has changed.

• India which once looked at others for solutions to most of its problems, is today emerging as a provider of solutions for the issues faced by the world.

• In these years, basic facilities have been made available to a large segment of the population who had waited for these for decades.

• The modern infrastructure that we long aspired for, has started coming up in the country in these years.

• The digital network that India has built is a source of inspiration even for developed countries.

• The long felt urge to be rid of the scourge of mega scams and corruption in government schemes is now being realized.

• Today the debate is no longer about policy paralysis, instead India is being recognized for her rapid development and the far-sightedness of her decisions.

• That is why, we have now become the fifth largest economy in the world, up from the 10th spot.

This is the foundation which elevates the self-confidence for building a developed Bharat in the next 25 years.

Honorable Members,

6.      Lord Basaveshwara had said – ‘Kayakave Kailasa’ which means Karma is worship and Shiva is in the Karma itself. Following this path, my government is actively engaged in performing the duty of nation building.

• Today India has a government which is stable, fearless, decisive and working with lofty ambitions.

• Today India has a government which respects the honest.

• Today India has a government working for permanent solution of the problems of the poor and their lasting empowerment.

• Today India has a government working at an unprecedented speed and scale.

• Today India has a government that gives pre-eminence to public welfare by leveraging innovation and technology.

• Today India has a government which is committed to removing every obstacle being faced by women.

• Today there is a government in India which is committed to progress as well as the protection of nature.

• Today India has a government that preserves heritage while also embracing modernity.

• Today India has a government which is moving forward confidently to play its rightful role on the global stage.

How to Properly Choose Your Words

By — Shyamal Sinha

The power of speech is one of the most important powers we have. Words, themselves, have a profound power to heal or to hurt, to create or to destroy. Speech is not something to take lightly. All of our ancient wisdom traditions emphasize, in their own language and way, the importance of right speech. In the Bhagavad Gita, Bhagawan Krishna explains that tapas of speech, or right dharmic speech, is that which is true, kind and beneficial. It’s not enough to just be true to justify being spoken. Yes, of course it MUST be true. But it also must be kind and beneficial.

Unfortunately, we have become habitual talkers. We talk and we talk and we just keep talking – even when we don’t have anything to say. And, that’s when we say things we don’t mean, things that may be true but that hurt others and ourselves. Or, even things which are NOT true and that certainly hurt us. AND, through constant meaningless talking we waste so much sacred energy of our being. So, what do we do to make sure that we’re choosing the right words…that we’re choosing the right speech?

Annual Transparency Report (ATR) will help in creating trust in the system: NFRA chairman

By — Shyamal Sinha

There is a need to develop a system which encourages behavioural change on the part of the stakeholders rather than simply investigating and strive to promote transparency through initiatives such as the initiative of an Annual Transparency Report (ATR) for listed companies, stated Dr. Ajay Bhushan Prasad Pandey, IAS, Chairperson, National Financial Reporting Authority at the 5th National Conference on Indian Accounting Standards titled ‘Recent Developments, Evolving Global Trends, Challenges and Way Forward’ organized by apex trade association- ASSOCHAM.

During the keynote address at the event, Dr. Pandey clarified that the process of implementing this ATR system will begin with the top 1000 publicly listed companies, where auditors must make available detailed information regarding their legal, governance and management structures in the public domain to enhance trust. “A lot of companies are compliant with the E (Environment) in the ESG norms but are they equally compliant with the S (social) and G (Governance) norms as well? There is a need to focus on those aspects as well,” Dr Pandey said.

He stated that there is a need to tap technology to change the accounting and auditing side as well citing example of financial inclusion. In the last couple of years, India has seen unprecedented digital transformation, granting all 1.4 billion citizens a digital identity. Usage of the UPI payment system, with 7 billion transactions amounting to 12 lakh crore, further underlines the profound scale of this shift.” he said. He further stated that these reforms have benefitted the banking system and the common people. “We have a total faceless income tax system today where everything is linked. If you have missed adding any income from any forgotten bank account, the system even reminds you of that,” he added.

The Chief Guest, Shri Suresh Prabhu, Former Union Minister  stated that societies need to develop systems from the Indian perspective. He added, “Look at the system that we created for our auto industry, it was Bharat Stage 1 and not the Euro 1 standards. However, though we create our own standards, we need to elevate to a level which is accepted globally and we need to be fully aware of what standards are accepted globally,” he said.

Dr. Ashok Haldia, Chairman, ASSOCHAM Task Force on Accounting Standards stated that the accounting standards are continuously evolving in a dynamic context and there is always an increasing in societal expectations from the auditors .It is the role of the auditors , regulators and other stakeholders need to respond to the same by staying attuned to the challenges,” he said.

Mr Vishesh C Chandiok, CEO, Grand Thornton Bharat stated that Technology is going to replace whatever the auditors are doing today. Unless we do things that add value to the process, the role of the auditors would be diminished,” he said.

He further added that there is a need to allow multidisciplinary partnership which is allowed in almost all the other countries.

Mr. Abhishek Rara, Charted Accountant stated that in a more volatile, complex and ambiguous world, trust is the new currency. “Highly valued however in short supply. In the future trust will dominate board and C-agendas” he added. Trust services are to be provided for the areas central to business, the market and society like -climate, data , securitysk.

Mr. V Balaji, Managing Partner, True and Fair Professionals Network stated that Ind AS or the Standards on Auditing specify the minimum requirements. Makers of financial statements and auditors should not just focus on meeting the minimum requirements but should enhance their disclosures to make it relevant to the stakeholders.

Mr. Vijay Sachdeva, Co-Chairman, ASSOCHAM National Council for Corporate Affairs, Company Law, and Corporate Governance explained that accounting standards are needed for confidence building measures of the investor community. “There is also a need to develop accounting standards to look at the climate risk and sustainability factors,” he added.

Haryana’s Tableau to give the immortal message of Srimad Bhagavad Gita to the entire world

By — Shyamal Sinha

This Republic Day Haryana’s tableau will be a special one as the spectators from all over the country and world will get a glimpse of Virat Swaroop of Lord Krishna.

For the second time in a row, the Defence Ministry’s expert committee of distinguished persons has selected Haryana’s tableau for the Republic Day Celebrations. The theme of this year’s tableau is International Geeta Mahotsav (IGM).

Divulging more details in this regard, Additional Principal Secretary to Chief Minister and Director General, Information, Public Relations and Languages Department, Dr. Amit Agrawal said that every year, the expert committee starts the process of selection of tableau of States, Union Territories and Ministries in the month of November.

He further shared that States, Union Territories and Ministries present their respective tableau themes. The Expert Committee then selects Tableau in a phased manner on the basis of the relevance and utility of the theme. Last year also, Haryana’s sports achievements were presented before the country and the world in a powerful manner through a tableau based on the theme of ‘Number One Haryana in Sports’.

Dr. Agrawal said that Kurukshetra is known as renowned seat of culture and civilization and was considered as one of the most ancient places of pilgrimage of the World.  Here on the banks of the sacred River Saraswati Vedas and Puranas were composed and compiled. About 5159 years back on the first day of Mahabharat battle, the eternal message of Srimadbhagavad Gita was delivered by Sri Krishna to Arjuna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra. Since then Kurukshetra is identified as birthplace of Gita, he added.

He said that, when Prime Minister, Sh. Narendra Modi visited Kurukshetra in the year 2014, he had said that every possible effort would be made to recognize Kurukshetra as the birth place of Gita. Giving a concrete shape to this thought, under the leadership of Chief Minister, Sh. Manohar Lal; the birthplace of Gita is being given recognition globally and the ‘International Gita Mahotsav’ has also been organized under this series in the country as well as abroad.

He further shared that every year in Kurukshetra International Gita Mahotsav (IGM) is celebrated to bring moral and cultural resurgence among the people. The 18-day-long holy Gita Mahotsav aims to spread the universal and inspirational message of the Srimadbhagavad Gita and enlighten the world with the message of peace, harmony and universal brotherhood, asserted Dr. Agrawal.

He said that in the year 2018, the Haryana Government with the objective to spread the eternal message of Gita in other parts of the world took a decision to start celebrating International Gita Mahotsav in other countries and in the year 2019, for the first time, IGM was organized in Mauritius and London. In the year 2022, IGM was also celebrated in Canada.

Haryana’s Tableau to a glimpse of Virat Swaroop of Lord Krishna

Dr. Agrawal said that Haryana’s Tableau will give the immortal message of Srimadbhagavad Gita to the entire world on this R-Day. In its entirety, the tableau shows Lord Krishna serving as charioteer of Arjuna and giving him the knowledge of Geeta. First glimpse of the tableau radiates an appeal of spirituality, art and history.

He further informed that the tractor section opens the dialogue where the spectators can see a larger than life statue of Lord Krishna in his ‘Virat Swaroop’, as he displayed before Arjuna. In the displayed statue of  Virat Sawroop, there are 9 heads of Shri Vishnu namely  Agni, Narsimah, Ganesh, Shiv, Vishnu, Brahma, Ashwini Kumar, Hanuman and Parshuram from left to right in sequence. Divya Sarp are covering their heads. They are carrying Sword, Trishul, Lotus, Sudershan chakr in right hand and Shankh, Barcha, Dhanush, Naag, Gada in left hand. Created on a circular platform, the entire bottom section is created in an intricate design.

The dialogue continues at the back in the trailer section, where a grand chariot with four horses running through (the Kurukshetra battlefield) has been created. The chariot, horses and all elements are created with intricate details. The statues aboard the chariot of Arjuna and Krishna are created in colour whereas rest of the trailer section is created in a single earthly shade. Every single detail right from horses, to chariot and even the ground dust is clearly visible. The patterns on the sides of the trailer shows various scenes from the battles of Mahabharata war.
